The N.Y. State Basics
"Marketplace" is the official health plan that New York State implemented in 2013. Open enrollment for New Yorkers looking for affordable health coverage through Qualified Health Plans begins on November 1, 2016 and runs through January 31, 2017.
“Since its start three years ago, NY State of Health has had tremendous success, enrolling more than 2.8 million New Yorkers in affordable coverage through the Marketplace. We are pleased to announce the plans that will be offered in 2017, including a new option for consumers qualifying for Essential Plan coverage” - NY State of Health Executive Director, Donna Frescatore
The creation of this plan was to get as many people insured as possbile in N.Y. State. Because health insurance is so costly, this program is crucial to making sure people are not prevented from being covered because of their incomes. The Marketplace was incited to give people of all incomes a chance to get covered and seek the health services they need to take care of themselves and their families.
What's New in 2016: The Essential Plan
"The Essential Plan lowers premiums to $20 or less a month and provides comprehensive benefits with no annual deductibles, free preventive care, and low copayments."
