During this time, many people are self-isolating and quarantining. Although this is the best method to prevent and slow the spread of COVID-19, it can take a toll on your social and personal life.
For many of us, this means we're unable to spend time with friends, family, or other loved ones. This can take an emotional toll, and make folks feel more alone than ever. However, there are still ways to connect and stay in touch with your loved ones.
Five ways to stay in touch
1. Video calling
Set up a time to video chat with your friends or family. You can do this through FaceTime or using WhatsApp on your phone. If you want to chat with a group of folks, you can do so through apps like Google Hangouts or Zoom. You can set up having a group brunch, dinner, or happy hour. Whatever method you choose, video calling is a great way to have some social interaction.
2. Play online games together
You don't have to be into video games to play online with your friends or family. If you use gaming systems like XBOX or Wii, you can play socially with your friends online. And, if you have a headset, most games allow you to talk to your friends in real time.
If you're not so much into gaming, you can still way games online with your friends. There are many apps that allow you to play in-person games online: Scrabble, Monopoly, Uno, etc.
3. A simple phone call
There's nothing wrong with having a good chat over the phone -- especially with folks overseas or older family members who may not be so tech savvy. Set up a phone date with your loved one, and enjoy catching up.
4. Watch a movie together
You can enjoy your friends and family's company by having a movie night. Netflix's extension Netflix Party allows you and your people to stream a movie (or binge a TV series) at the same time, so you can watch together. Don't forget to have some snacks, too.
5. Start a group chat
While group chats have existed long before self-isolation and social distancing, it can still be an effective tool to stay connected. You can start a group chat for your family, coworkers, or close friends. With a group chat, you can also send videos, pictures, and funny memes.
